If you’re a small business owner who takes product photography or a product photographer, here are 3 quick and easy ways to elevate your product photography:
Add elements of interest
Add elements of interest to your set-up–this will immediately pull people in and grab their attention. For my work, I like to use flowers, fabrics/ interesting textures or I pull out ingredients that are within the product. For example, if you have an orange-scented candle, then perhaps you’d use oranges and the rind of orange in your styling.
If you’re shooting a dewy skincare product, then spray the bottle with water and make the product look wet–begin to create a story that will capture your audience's attention.
Play with motion
If it’s appropriate and makes sense for your product–consider playing with motion. For example, I shot my skincare product below in a tray of water, then used a hair dryer to create this super cool ripple effect.
Play with light
This is one of my favourite tricks that I frequently use in my product photography!
Place items with interesting shapes in front of your light source to create cool shadows. I often use large palms or cardboard boxes with lots of square cutouts to emulate paned window light.
